Before you Contact Us Please Read more about Divine Mastiffs
Divine Mastiffs is not a business nor do we EVER make any sort of a profit from our breedings, nor was Divine Mastiffs created to be a business or to profit from the breeding of Mastiffs. Divine Mastiffs website was created to share our fur family with the public and educate anyone that visits our site.
Divine Mastiffs has actively participated in Rescue but does breed on an occasion and on a very selective basis. We know that there will always be folks who want a certain type of purebred dog, in our case, that is the Mastiff. So, we feel it necessary to have our website visible and accessible to the general public in order to educate and offer quality, health tested, time tested, well pedigreed, purebred Mastiffs for those that are looking for a puppy.
With regard to breeding and puppies ~ the only time Divine Mastiffs chooses to do a breeding is when we feel we have a fully health tested, quality female. At that time, we would choose to breed her and we spend countless hours studying and planning for her breeding. We study males from all over the country. A typical breeding with a male out of state using fresh chilled semen or frozen can cost anywhere from $2000.00 to $3500.00 just to do the breeding, and there is no guarantee that puppies will be conceived. For every successful breeding we have had we have had on average 1.5 unsuccessful breedings. We strive to breed the best to the best in order to better the quality of the purebred Mastiff.
After we have done a breeding and confirmed it we monitor the mother- to- be on a daily basis and check the puppies heart beats daily with a fetal heart rate monitor, when the puppies are born, then we begin our socialization and evaluation process of the litter. The breeding is for us and if there are puppies that are available after we have taken our pick then they are the puppies that we will selectively place in homes after screening applicants. In addition to the basics our litters are MCOA Futurity/Maturity nominated, will be puppy aptitude tested, evaluated for conformation by a third party, OFA CAER'd (eyes), Cardiac tested, and Microchipped. We breed each litter with great care, raising our puppies in our home using the following programs: Carmen Battaglias Early Neurological Stimulation and The Rules of Seven, please read more about our breeding philosophy.
We are not "show snobs," however we do care immensely about the breed and the lives of our dogs and we will be there for you throughout the life of your dog and beyond as friends, mentors, support whenever you need it. We do not take placement of our dogs lightly at all. If you are choosen to receive one of our puppies we will become great friends as we see or talk with you on a regular basis especially the first year of life, you will complete Puppy's Rules of Twelve and you will be required to complete classes with your new family member. We do also love to show our dogs... you can see that here on our site, it is more than our very expensive hobby! Show dogs are in general better socialized than the average pet.
Why do we want you to read through our website: Because we've taken so much time to put our heart and soul into every page. It is important that you know as much about us and the breed as you can before you even write to us. I know how exciting it is to decide on a breed and want to jump into puppy hunting but please read our site. I always know who hasn't by the questions asked in emails or on the telephone. Sometimes I get two sentence emails such as "are your dogs purebred and how much are they?" Clearly, that email came from someone who had not read my site. I don't and won't respond to those emails, or if I do I simply state that our wait list is full~
If you are serious about a Mastiff pup, please read our site, call, or email. If we don't have a puppy for you, we will help you find a puppy from a reputable breeder ~ reputable breeders work together to protect our breed. Always consider a rescue, be it a purebred Mastiff, a Mastiff mix (being careful with what they are mixed with) and also the shelter dog. Make your choice to bring a purebred Mastiff into your home with time, patience and careful consideration. We will not ship puppies in cargo unattended, if you are interested in one of our puppies and live out of state you would need to fly here and fly the puppy home under your seat. This also gives us a chance to meet and form a relationship that we will build on through the life of your mastiff.
If you are searching for a breeder, realize that good breeders have spent years educating themselves, and they understand that breeding is a serious endeavor. Here at Divine Mastiffs, I try to give puppies the very best start in life possible, first by beginning with the very best parents, and then by raising the puppies in a rich stimulating environment with close human contact and lots of early socialization and imprinting. Responsible breeders take the time to prove dogs through training and competition, and use dogs for breeding who have proven themselves to be correct specimens with correct temperament. The importance of correct stable temperament in such a powerful breed cannot be over emphasized. I select and use for breeding dogs who are approachable and friendly during normal social interaction, and able to be safely examined in the show ring. This is one reason I find competition so important. If a dog is incorrect, unstable, insecure, or overly aggressive, these traits will eventually show themselves under the mild stress of events and competition. Breeding partners are carefully and honestly evaluated, and then matched to enhance their good qualities, and offset or minimize their faults. Breedings should always be planned with improvement in mind.
In addition, I select dogs for breeding who have on record and open to public view health testing for Hips, Elbows, Heart, and Eyes, (after 24 months of age) at a minimum. For the future protection and improvement of the Mastiff breed, I require the same testing be done on all of our puppies, also with the release of results for public view, whether normal or abnormal. Having this documented information on hand is INVALUABLE to others in the future when they are doing their own research trying to plan healthy litters. It is imperative that ALL puppies be health screened, even those who may never be bred, for in this way as breeders we are able to understand which breedings produce the most healthy dogs. I am delighted to see more breeders requiring that the results of all testing be disclosed. Be warned! There are also breeders out there who have slick beautiful websites, and stories equally as slick. Accept no substitute for documented proof of health testing that has been submitted to the data bases. It is far too easy to falsify documents that have not been sent in to OFA or other data bases.
Thank you so very much for your time to read this page.
