Our Breeding Philosophy

We believe a Mastiff should be a family companion living in the house with its family; as well as be able to excel in the show ring or conformation ring. All of our litters will be planned with three things in mind; type, temperament, and health.

Type: While no Mastiff is perfect we plan each of our litters with the AKC Mastiff breed standard in mind. Each of our dogs is shown in conformation to their championship. The goal of every breeding is betterment of the breed, which maximizes the parent’s strengths and minimizes their weaknesses.

Temperament: Dogs like people have different personalities. Every effort is made to help the new puppy buyer choose one that will fit in their life style. All of our dogs are well socialized and raised around people and other animals. Early socialization is one of the keys to a healthy, loving and well-behaved Mastiff. We strive to raise dogs to be good canine citizens that will feel comfortable in the ring, helping at a local hospital or just sitting in the living room.

Health: We feel strongly that all dogs that we plan to breed, be screened for health problems. We will not breed a dog that has not passed OFA for hips and elbows, and is not PRA clear. All puppies will have been checked by our vet, have been wormed and will be current on all of its vaccinations before leaving our home. All of our puppies come with written health guarantees against hip and elbow problems as well as against Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA).

We will keep in contact with our puppies' owners throughout the life of the Mastiff and will gladly provide advice and assistance in any way possible. We love receiving family photos of our puppies. We also enjoy educating individuals, not only about our puppies, but also about Mastiffs in general. If you have a question please don't hesitate to contact us. We will not sell our puppies to just anyone. Prospective owners will be screened. We expect those looking to purchase a puppy to do the same of us. Thus, prospective owners are encouraged to visit us, meet our Mastiffs, and ask questions. Our answers will be truthful and forthright. If we don't know the answer we will either get it for you or point you in the right direction.  If you do not want a breeder who will be involved in the life of the Mastiff we are not the breeders for you.

Purchasing a Mastiff is not something to be taken lightly, but is a life long commitment. However, if at any time during the dog's life the new owners can't take care of a Mastiff they purchased from us we require the dog be returned to us instead of allowing it to go into a shelter. We offer both top quality show and companion puppies. Each has the same health guarantees and sound breeding. Typically, the only difference is a companion puppy may have fewer of the  cosmetic qualities that would allow it to shine in the show ring; none of which would prevent it from being a healthily well-adjusted and loving companion.

To reduce confusion about what is expected from us as well as what is expected of the new parents we only sell puppies on a written contract. All companion home dogs will be sold on a spayed/neutered contract and will carry limited registration. Show dogs will be sold on co-ownership with Mary and will carry full registration.  It is not uncommon for us to have a waiting list for our puppies so we suggest you consider contacting us as early in your decision process as possible. We would be more than willing to offer our advice even if you don't decide to get your new dog from us.
